I have to tell you that in Opulence’s Hair extension classes we go over the application for half of the time. Just talking about how to apply glue in extensions, or cold fusion extensions takes time but it is well worth it. I think most stylists see the dollar bill signs of what they could make doing extensions and forget that it is a tedious job. I know of certain stylist in my salon who wont do over 4 bags of hair because they just couldn’t handle it. I love doing extensions and I don’t have any issues with taking the time it needs to put them in right. I liken it unto acrylic nails, in school when each of us had to learn how to do acrylic nails we either loved it or hated it. That is what extensions are like….I see a TON of clients who will come in to have their current extensions taken out (that were not put in by me) and I can tell the stylist got careless towards the end of the application. You should start at the bottom and work to the crown of the head when doing extensions. So I see that near the neck line it has small partings and looks like they were taking really nice sections. Towards the top, around the ears and mid section its large partings, you can’t distinguish rows and huge chunks of glue or a ton of hair jammed into the beads just to get done quick. It is obvious the stylist got sloppy because it was taking to much time or it was to tedious for them. Doing it right the first time around will help you when you go to take them out and help your client to have a great experience. Remember that your client is paying you to do a good job so take the time it needs to make it nice and comfortable for your client. Taking large sections of your clients hair to attach the extensions to can over correct the clients hair and make it brake off. As well as taking to small of sections, it causes problems because there is not enough hair to attach the extension to and there is to much weight on the few strands of hair ultimately causing breakage as well. Having huge clumps of hair in each section is also uncomfortable for your clients to sleep on. There are many reasons why you need to take the appropriate sizes to attach the extensions and they are all beneficial for you and your clients. So lets do it right!
